The tower is the third to stand atop this hill. The first was built of wood in 1874 and was intended to be a “tourist attraction”. The present tower was built in 1901 by the Tobey family who owned the summer hotel near Cape Cod Bay called Nobscussett House. In 1920 the hill and tower were turned over to the town of Dennis. When you get to the top of the tower all the north shore of Cape Cod is spread out in front of you, and you can usually see the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown. Bring a camera. There is an Indian legend that goes with Scargo Lake involving a beautiful princess and a handsome young brave. There is no admission, it is open to the public.
