Rockport’s rich cultural history and beauty are inextricably tied to the glacial granite deposits that line her shores. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a vibrant granite industry developed in Rockport and Gloucester. Immigrant stonecutters quarried the stone which was shipped out by boat and rail. This high quality Cape Ann granite was sought out nationwide for the construction of prominent buildings and bridges, historical monuments, sculpture, street pavers, and curb stones.

In honor of these quarrymen and their legacy, we take our name from the simple hand tool and process they used in splitting massive blocks of granite — the feather and wedge.
